The Clifton, Brick Lane by Dickie F

The Clifton, Brick Lane - A Review by Dickie F.

Derek's first recommendation found us wandering off to experience the exotic delights of the East - Brick Lane. After a couple of sharpeners in Mayfair, we were transported by magic taxi to the Clifton, an open, bright and modern affair with a wall mural made out of softwood. I looked in vain for the Trojan rabbit, as it would have looked quite at home in there. Pleased to see an open kitchen and tandoor, which appeared very clean. In summary, good service and excellent food all round. Everything, and I mean everything, seemed to have a bit of a spicy kick to it - even the plain poppodom and the Cobra. The placebo dishes of mixed kebab and mutar paneer were excellent, the mutar paneer going for lumps of cheese rather than the melted cheese sauce. Toilets were closely inspected on two visits and found to be modern and comparatively clean, with a stainless steel and glass approach. Thumbs up all round and an excellent start to the process. One thing I struggled to find, however, was the "fusion twist" we were promised. All seemed pretty standard to me, but with high quality fodder!
